What transloading solves

When the trailer the freight came on can’t finish the trip.

A container hits the port, but your delivery is two states inland. A flatbed shows up with a load that can’t unload at the customer’s dock. A van loaded in California needs to finish on a hotshot to make a Friday deadline. That’s transloading — and we do it at our Lilburn dock the same day.

Common mode changes

  • Container → Dry VanPort-to-inland deliveries when the container can’t go to the dock.
  • Container → FlatbedIndustrial freight unboxed at the dock and re-secured for open-deck transport.
  • Flatbed → Dry VanWeather-sensitive freight switched to enclosed for the last leg.
  • Flatbed → Pup TrailerSplitting a full flatbed for jobsite access constraints.
  • Dry Van → HotshotLate-stage expediting when a deadline tightens.
  • Multi-mode splitsOne inbound, multiple outbound — different destinations, different trailers.

Why Comet for transloading

One Atlanta dock. One team. Every paperwork format.

We’ve been the transload everyone-else-calls since 1995. Same-day mode changes, cargo-specific securement (chains, straps, banding, shrink-wrap), POD reissue, and clean weight tickets. When disaster strikes, we’re already on the dock.

Common questions

Before you call, in case it helps.

  • What is transloading?

Moving freight from one mode or trailer to another mid-route — container to van, flatbed to pup, or van to hotshot — when the original equipment can’t finish the job. It happens at our Atlanta dock.

  • How fast is the transfer?

Transloads are handled at our Lilburn dock with 24/7 dispatch, so a mode change can happen in the same shift rather than sitting for days at a terminal.

  • Do you handle the paperwork and re-securement?

Yes — the freight is counted, re-secured for the new trailer, and documented, so the BOL and POD trail stays clean through the mode change.
